SOCO's Express Intranet

empower expansion strategies for a mines acquisition company

Our client is a company focused on operating and acquiring metals and mining businesses in high-quality, stable jurisdictions. They acquired one of Australia’s highest-grade copper mines in NSW from a Swiss multinational commodity trading and mining company and needed the seamless transfer of content from their existing intranet. They were seeking a trusted Microsoft partner, a vendor with the capability to support their long-term business goals, and with scalability in mind as they continue to expand their portfolio. Leveraging our experience with similar objectives, our Microsoft 365 team at SOCO developed an Information Architecture (IA), complemented by our Express Intranet solution in less than four weeks to foster effortless collaboration and communication.

Sebastian Rizzo Executive Director at SOCO

The Express Intranet was perfect for our requirements. It was hard to imagine at the beginning that we would be left with an intranet of such high-quality system. The process which SOCO followed helped us achieve exactly what we required. Credit absolutely goes to the SOCO team; the quick response time and the team’s effort to complete the project on time were impressive.

Challenge

Internal communication, collaboration and core document management were not possible due to the lack of cloud-based intranet, hindering the organisation’s ability to streamline operations and support their growth initiatives efficiently.

A couple of challenges to mention, including:

  • Rapid deployment: Our client needed a new intranet created swiftly to transfer existing material from the existing intranet.
  • Additional costs: The existing on-premises intranet was customised by a third-party vendor, incurring ongoing licensing fees alongside the Microsoft licensing costs.
SOCO Solution

Express Intranet engagement was recommended to our client as it follows the latest developments and enhancements offered by Microsoft, all within the cloud environment.

The engagement strategically leverages SharePoint Online’s ‘Out-of-the-Box’ capabilities, prioritising a configuration approach over customisation which is in line with Microsoft’s best practice.

This approach not only perfectly complements our client’s expansion strategy but also minimises the overall lifetime total cost of ownership.

Technology snapshot
  • SharePoint Online Intranet: A web-based collaborative platform that integrates natively with Microsoft 365, improving document management for companies worldwide.
  • Microsoft Teams: The chat-based workspace in Office 365 that integrates all the people, content and tools your team needs to be more engaged and effective.
  • Viva Connections: A customisable app that seamlessly integrates your intranet with Microsoft Teams.
Outcome

In just four weeks, we seamlessly transitioned from discovery to full implementation, supporting the transition of content from the previous company’s on-premises intranet to SharePoint Online.

We aligned the intranet with our client’s corporate brand guidelines and objectives, with a bespoke IA, providing a solid foundation for their future growth.

Building on this success, we are poised to move forward into phase 2, which encompasses:

  • so:control document management integration
  • Automation of content publication
